Approved by the Louisiana Legislature during the 2010 legislative session as ACT 954, the LaPOST document is a means by which a person may communicate his/her wishes concerning medical treatment with a physician's order. The LaPOST document is recommended for patients who are seriously ill with “life limiting disease and irreversible conditions” and whose life expectancy is less than one year. The document is completed by the patient and the physician.
